What is the title of your work in progress?
Into Elurien
Where did the idea come from for the book?
Back in December 2015, I was invited to take part in a really interesting group project: a series of books by bestselling indie authors, with each story sharing a common element that linked them together but taking place in our own worlds with our own characters. 30-50K words, Fantasy Romance, happily-ever-after a must.
How could I resist that?
After loads of brainstorming and considering options, I decided that my world was going to be packed with monsters, and that my heroine would have to struggle with a very inhuman love interest.
I’m mean like that.
What genre does your book fall under?
New adult fantasy romance.
What is a one sentence synopsis for your book?
Eugh. Pending. I suck at this part.
Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
Self-published, along with all of the other books in the series. This will allow us creative control and will let us keep sale prices low enough that readers will be able to indulge in as many of these stories as they want. I have a feeling it’s going to be one of those “gotta read ’em all” things.
How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
A few weeks. I’ve figured out that I like to push through the first draft as quickly as possible, and with a novella (which due to word count restrictions is far less complex than my larger books) it’s possible to finish quickly.
Outlining helps, too.
What else about the book might pique the reader’s interest?
I decided to play with ideas of beauty while my protagonist (a nice, if somewhat anxious and supersitious girl form a fictional Newfoundland town) had fun with her beast, and to let her struggle as the only remaining human in a world where they–the humans who were more monstrous than any of the creatures they ensalved–have been all but wiped out. It’s got romance (not erotica, but definitely hotter than my YA books), save-the-world adventure, and some of the finest monsters you’ll ever meet.
And if that doesn’t interest you… well, I guess you’re not me. Because I had a BLAST writing this one. 🙂
