It’s been a little chilly. Most of our snow melted last week, which was simply grand, but then everything kind of iced over.
Everything.
Pretty, but slippery. I nearly killed myself getting these pictures, so I figured I might as well share them with all of you.
Okay, on to WIPpet Wednesday. Edits on Bound are still progressing, if slowly at times. Not to jinx anything, but we’re on schedule as far as that goes.
*waits for roof to crash in and exploditate the computer*
No?
Good. So here’s a snippet from Rowan’s POV in chapter 22, because I’m playing by the rules. But it’s a short one, because spoilers and good times abound, and I’d hate to ruin anything. We’re walking in on the middle of a fight, here.
–
I hesitated for a moment and felt some of my anger leave me, but my heart continued to pound. “You don’t think you can want something and still be afraid of it?”
His mouth twitched. “No, you can, and you should. What you’re saying no to is better than you can imagine. This decision should be so easy. You have until tomorrow to decide what you—”
I stepped closer again. “I don’t need until tomorrow. I know what I want.”
–
I know what she wants, too. Whether I let her have it is another question.
#DrunkOnPower #GodComplex #EvilGrin #IveHadTooMuchCoffeeToday
For anyone not in the know, WIPpet Wednesday is when we share a snippet of a work in progress relating in some way to the day’s date. The group is always growing. Take a look here, and then feel free to join in! And if you want updates on that there story (in which I never once use the phrase “that there,” FYI), feel free to add your name to the mailing list for updates and other fun stuff. Next edition (April-ish) will have news on ARCs, cover reveals, and publication dates.
On to ROW80, then!
Editing: As I said, not too bad. I stalled over the weekend, but things are moving again.
Reading: Haven’t had time. I know that’s sad, but there you have it. Well, I read a good chunk of a romance novel, but I’m giving up on it. I don’t believe that this woman (or anyone) would fall for the guy. He’s an alpha male with no redeeming qualities except for what she’s projected onto him (and massive junk, because they always have that, don’t they?). I just KNOW her love will redeem him in the end, but I don’t think I’ll be sticking around to see it.
Life: I was supposed to see a chiropractor today, but he got the flu and had to reschedule for Thursday. I was disappointed, but what can you do? I went out and got groceries, anyway. And walked the dog. So that’s something.
Oh, and the snow came back.
And on that note…
Thanks for stopping by!

Rowan may know what she wants, but what you want isn’t always the best thing. For example, I always want cake. I can always get myself cake. Should I? No. It’s not healthy. (Cake y u no healthy?) Of course if a character wanted cake and it led to bad things… Yeah, that’s the kind of writer I am. MUAHAHAHAHA!
Good work on your goals. 🙂
January 22nd, 2014 at 10:14 am
Oh she so wants cake. Rich, delicious, decadent cake that’s probably poisoned in the middle, but what can you do?
Never make it easy on them. 🙂
January 22nd, 2014 at 10:16 am
I’d eat around the middle. Sounds nom. 😉
January 22nd, 2014 at 10:19 am
SO DAMNED NOM. *drools*
January 22nd, 2014 at 10:33 am
That cake is *not* poisoned in the middle. It’s just…um…misunderstood. Yeah. I want that cake!
*clears throat* Great WIPpet. Poor, Rowan.
January 22nd, 2014 at 10:36 am
It’s okay. We all want the cake.
The cake thinks it’s poisoned.
Is it just me, or is this metaphor not working anymore?
January 22nd, 2014 at 10:47 am
The cake just wasn’t baked correctly. 😉 I’m thinking he…um..it…wouldn’t be thrilled with us referring to him as cake.
January 22nd, 2014 at 10:49 am
No, I was just thinking that he’d think this was ridiculous. He– I mean, it– might have an issue with you referring to him as half-baked, too. XD
January 22nd, 2014 at 10:54 am
I didn’t say half- baked. I just said he was baked incorrectly…
Thanks goodness I have the monkeys to protect me.
January 22nd, 2014 at 10:55 am
I know, I’m only joking. 😉
January 22nd, 2014 at 10:58 am
*glares* You’re trying to get me in trouble.
January 22nd, 2014 at 10:58 am
Oh, the cake doesn’t read these comments… he’s dealing with other issues right now.
SO MANY ISSUES.
January 22nd, 2014 at 11:08 am
Aaarggghhh! You’re killing me. GIVE ME THE CAKE. *eyes Kate suspiciously* What are you doing to him?
January 22nd, 2014 at 11:09 am
You don’t want to know. Yet.
January 22nd, 2014 at 11:11 am
You’re playing the Evil Author card, aren’t you?
January 22nd, 2014 at 11:13 am
It’s for his own good. Really.
A certain ARC I read recently has made me very nervous about messing with my characters’ lives. I can only imagine what this cake would do to me if we met (and it’s only getting worse before the end).
Not that you’d fare much better if you met yours, I imagine.
January 22nd, 2014 at 11:16 am
The icing over is always pretty, but better from inside. Love how you hint that you might not give the character what she wants. 🙂
January 22nd, 2014 at 11:17 am
Well, where’s the fun in that? 😉
January 22nd, 2014 at 11:50 am
True. Though, sometimes it means one never wants to meet their characters in a dark alley. Or a brightly lit park. 🙂
January 22nd, 2014 at 12:27 pm
I’m glad you’re back. I wasn’t sure how long of a break you were taking. I should have checked before now. Anyway, I hear you on the reading. I only read at bedtime. But I often fall asleep during the reading.
I’m glad Rowan knows what she wants!! Woo!
We’ve had a lot of snow here too. And cold temperatures. 😦
January 22nd, 2014 at 12:46 pm
These pictures are beautiful…thank you for risking your very life getting them for us….
January 22nd, 2014 at 12:53 pm
I aim to please.
January 22nd, 2014 at 1:50 pm
Good luck with the continued editing. Sounds like the reading my be a nuisance to you right now. Keep walking the dog, good exercise. Thank you for sharing the lovely pictures. I always appreciate the ice and snow when I know I don’t have to be out in it. 🙂
January 22nd, 2014 at 2:22 pm
I have trouble with the reading, too. My characters yell at me, “Get back to work! You have stories to tell!” Or I find myself picking apart a novel’s first pages. The last to suck me in was Hunger Games. I LOVED how that book was written. Couldn’t put it down.
Best of luck with your goals this week!
January 22nd, 2014 at 6:21 pm
A girl who knows her own mind. Love it. And the fact she might not get her way. The weather your way goes to show things aren’t always as we’d like it (although the photos are so pretty). Summertime here – seems weird really. But we had a reasonable sized earthquake on Monday, and was at a friend’s house yesterday and part of the roof did fall in. You just never know… But I’m sure will all continue to go well for you!
January 22nd, 2014 at 6:24 pm
See, coming from where I do (ie not Earthquake Junction), the notion of a “reasonable sized earthquake” is terrifying. Yeesh…
We’re getting 40 cm of snow in the next 24 hours, but I’ll take that over earthquakes!
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:03 am
Great POV excerpt. Have a good week. x
January 23rd, 2014 at 2:46 am
There’s no messing about here, she knows what she wants and I get the feeling she’ll get what she wants? But what that is… *humphf* nice tease. Nice icy pics too and I appreciate the risk you took in taking them. 🙂
January 23rd, 2014 at 9:19 am
It wasn’t a calculated risk, I’m just easily distracted by shiny things. Glad you liked them. 😉
Yeah, I like this scene because Rowan is kind of sheltered in the beginning, and unsure of what she wants. This is a big moment for her.
January 23rd, 2014 at 4:20 am
Love the pictures (and the hashtags). I think you do first-person really well. Not sure I mentioned that on the previous WIPs you’ve shown us from this.Hope your back gets better soon
January 23rd, 2014 at 9:16 am
Thanks, thanks, and thanks! And yeah, the random hash tags get a bit out of hand when I’m feeling woozy, but they do amuse me. 😉
January 23rd, 2014 at 6:20 am
Those pictures are so pretty! *grabby hands* This is what happens when I work on Operation: Sugarplum at the same time as being obsessed with the Frozen soundtrack. Summer was a stupid time to start doing either of these things.
Yay for being on schedule! I’m really excited for Bound. The excerpt is great, too. Makes me wonder what she wants and what the stakes are for wanting it.
January 23rd, 2014 at 9:14 am
I’m glad you’re excited. After WIPeting a few projects for so long, it feels like I’ve just thrown a bunch of colorful puzzle pieces out there that don’t fit together, and it shouldn’t be interesting.
Hope your current projects and obsessions are at least keeping you cool!
But puzzles are fun, right? And I know I look forward to seeing how other people’s pieces fit together. 🙂
January 23rd, 2014 at 11:06 am
The question is, if she gets what she wants, will it actually make her happy? I can relate to wanting to mess with the characters a little and not giving them what they want. Evilly fun to string them along, no?
January 23rd, 2014 at 12:27 pm
Very intriguing little excerpt! Has me asking myself all kinds of questions, so it obviously did its job. 🙂
What excellent pictures. Glad you didn’t kill yourself to get them!
January 23rd, 2014 at 4:15 pm
Now if I were you, I would give her exactly what she says she wants… and have her realize she should have phrased things better/more clearly/with footnotes, etc., and then have the &&#! hit the fan.
That’s just me.
We didn’t get ice like that this year… thank you for posting images. I missed it!
January 23rd, 2014 at 7:54 pm
No spoilers, but she might get what she wants and then regret it… 🙂
I’ll try to send you some ice if we get more.
January 23rd, 2014 at 8:00 pm
Sounds good.
Nah… no ice needed here. At least, not without some snow under it.
January 24th, 2014 at 11:34 pm
Bwahahaha! Being evil to the characters is the best part of being an author. 🙂 Does she REALLY want it, though? Or would it be baaaaad for her? And if it is bad for her, are you going to give it to her, anyway?
January 25th, 2014 at 9:03 am
Can it be all of the above? *evil grin*
January 25th, 2014 at 6:10 pm
You’re the author. 🙂
January 25th, 2014 at 10:41 am
Nice pictures! Hope you can stay warm.
Best wishes with the editing. I’ve got a fair share of that myself this round. And I completely understand about giving up on a novel. Most of the time, if I’m not hooked a good ways in, ba-bye to that book. There are just too many great reads out there to waste time on one that isn’t working for you.
Have a great week!
January 26th, 2014 at 5:11 pm
Great excerpt. I REALLY want to know what comes next, so well done for a nice teaser, you meanie!! Hope you’ve had a good weekend. 🙂
